Photo id/ref number: 11617413716/B033/D7749 The seafront of Blyth at the mouth of the River Blyth. The short river which runs to a sandy shore has been occupied at least from the Saxon times. The flourishing salt pans on the coast were gradually displaced by sea trade in coal. Drawn by J.D. Harding, engraved by W. Finden.
The Lighthouse in the centre of the engraving is still standing. It is attached to a house in a terraced street a few rows from the seafront. The land has all been reclaimed from the sea for buildings. It is worth a visit!
